Chakayla "Kayla" Rockale Spurlock

Chakayla Rockale Spurlock ‘Kayla' was born July 31, 2000, to Chakiris (Tanaka) and Leslie Spurlock. As a child Kayla was quiet and very observant but when she did speak, you knew she was paying attention and taking the whole world in. Her early years were spent in Williamsburg Va where she attended Norge Elementary and Berkeley Middle Schools. Kayla and her family attended Mt Pleasant Baptist church, Williamsburg, Va. It was here, Kayla fell in love with praising God through dance and became a member of the Sunbeam Praise Team. In 2011 the family found another church family at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in King William Virginia. The following year Kayla was baptized there and her passion for praise dancing continued as a member of the Divine Royalty praise team. The family eventually relocated to King William in 2014. Outside of church, Kayla loved watching The Voice, The Bold & The Beautiful and anything on the LifeTime Network but participating in church activities especially dancing superseded everything else. Recently, she posted several times on social media how she couldn’t wait to be able to go back to church. 2018 was a big year for Kayla. She was graduated from King William High School and she found the love of her life Charles Henry Fletcher, III ‘Tuke’. Kayla and Tuke were inseparable. They did everything together even working. They were most recently employed by King William Public Schools until they were hired by Owens & Minor in Williamsburg, VA. On the morning of February 23, 2021, while traveling to Owens & Minor, Kayla gained her wings with the love of her life by her side. It was to be their first day on the new earthly job. But, they were called to a much bigger heavenly one. Kayla is preceded in death by her grandfather William Pernell Washington, her maternal great grandmother Roberta Brown, her paternal great grandparents, Aubrey (Buck) and Mabel Washington, Wert and Eleanora (Big Momma) Spurlock. She is survived by her parents, Chakiris (Tanaka) and Leslie Spurlock, sisters; Courtney Brown and Chakira Spurlock of Williamsburg, VA and Cynese Spurlock of West Point, VA; nieces, Abrianna Brown and A’Mirra Lipscomb; maternal grandparents Lafayette Brown and Marie Gray, paternal grandparents Lawrence and Cynthia Cowles Sr.; granny Minister Jacqueline Washington; great grandma Florence Florene Gray; uncles, Lawrence Cowles Jr. and Eric Edmonds; aunties, Lisa Smith, Latrelle Brown, Katina Godwin, Yolanda Green (Percell); devoted Auntie Lois Spurlock; godmother Katina Hayes; cousins, Gregory Jr., Demonte, Xavaier, Jai’Lynn, Noah and Kaiden; a special cousin Lamesha Walker; and, a host of other relatives and friends. A walk-through viewing will be held Monday, March 1, 2021 from 4-8 pm at Vincent Funeral Home, 417 11th Street, West Point, VA 23181. A memorial service will be 1 pm Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at the funeral home.
