Christie Taylor

Taylor, Christie Carol (Evans), 93, passed on December 18th at the Gloucester House in Gloucester, VA. She was born Christie Carol Evans in Union Level, VA on Christmas day in 1916 to John Wesley and Willie Alma (Taylor) Evans. She always loved to tell the story of her mother not wanting to name her Christmas Carol so settled on Christie Carol instead. She was predeceased by her parents, an infant brother, and her husband of 43 years, Robert Henry Taylor. She is survived by her son Robert (Bob) Taylor of Gressitt, Melody Taylor of Powderly, TX, grandson Brandon Taylor and wife Christine of Kilmers Point, granddaughter Kristy and husband Stephen Williams of Princeton, WV, great-grandchildren Sierra, Sydney, Bradly, and Kayleigh Taylor, and special friend Margret Mills. She moved about the state of Virginia numerous times following Henry’s job and in each place she established friends and acquaintances that she retained all of her life. She lived from 1964 to 2004 in the Oak community of New Kent County. Anyone who knew her would say ‘she never met a stranger’. She was known around the area as Miss Christie as that is what the children at the New Kent schools called her during the nearly fifteen years she was a bus driver and cafeteria manager. She was a faithful member of Pamunkey UMC for 46 years where she taught Sunday school, played the piano, served on many committees, and held numerous offices. She served as Treasurer of the Pamunkey Memorial Association for 34 years. Her legacy will live on in her namesake granddaughter and the many friends she established over her long and fruitful life. The family thanks the staff of Gloucester House and Riverside Walter Reed Hospice for their unending care and attention making her final time as enjoyable as possible. Visitation will be on Monday, December 20th from 6 to 7 pm at Vincent Funeral Home, West Point. A graveside service will be held at Pamunkey UMC, in New Kent County, at 11am, Tuesday December 21th. The Rev. Tom Tipton will officiate. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Pamunkey Memorial Association or to the West Point Fire and Rescue Squad. Vincent Funeral Home, West Point is in charge of the arrangements.
