Clara "Joyce" Blizzard

Clara “Joyce” Blizzard, affectionately called Toots by her family, peacefully transitioned March 22, 2025 at 90 years young. She will forever be missed and remembered for her zest of life, known for her fiery spirit, sharp wit, and boundless love for ALL. Everyone who encountered her loved her too. If you asked her how she was doing she would always say she was “bad to the bone” and when you told her you “loved her,” she would give a wink and a reply of “I love me too.” Her spunk was matched only by her love for the Lord and for others, as well as her smile and laughter that lit up our lives. She lived her life unapologetically. Her contagious laughter, bold stories, and fearless attitude were the heartbeat of every gathering. She taught us to embrace life’s challenges with a smile and to always dance to our own tune. She cherished a good cup of coffee, enjoyed music, and loved cooking. She was in fact an amazing cook and worked both at The West Point Restaurant and The Gathering Place before retiring. In doing this, she was able to socialize with everyone, cook tasty food and listen to music while spreading love, joy, and a little sass too. Her love was not limited to those close to her; it extended to strangers, the community, and beyond. Whether through her smile, her comforting words, or her unwavering belief in the goodness of people, our beautiful “Toots” made everyone feel valued and cared for and left them with a smile. Born in Maryland April 19, 1934, to Lundy Thomas and Mary Amanda Kinser, she married and adventured around the east coast eventually settling in Virginia in the 1970’s. She was proud to have nine children and raise them with love and strength. Until her last days they loved her the same. Her legacy of love and acceptance will endure in the lives she touched. She taught us that kindness can change the world, and her lessons will forever remain in our hearts. She leaves to cherish her beautiful memories, her surviving children, Betty, Marvin Jr, Cynthia, Henry, and Joyce; her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; four sisters- Betty, Ada, Linda, Gail; and a host of other family members and loved ones. She is reunited with her parents, her siblings, and her predeceased children- Roy, David, Daniel, and Hosea. Toots will be deeply missed, but her light will shine in our memories and in the love, we carry forward. The family wants to express sincere appreciation to all of the medical providers that took part in her ongoing care, and showed kindness, concern, and genuine love. To Vincents Funeral Home and King William Florist, thank you for all of your support and warm-heartedness as we mourn the loss of our Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, & Great-Great Grandmother, “Toots.” The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM, Saturday, March 29th at Vincent Funeral Home, West Point. A graveside funeral service will be held 2 PM, Sunday, March 30th at Sunny Slope Cemetery, West Point.
