Dawne Williams Estis

Dawne Williams Estis, 72, of Mechanicsville was called Home February 3, 2017. She was a member of the West Point High School Class of 1963, where she was voted the best dressed and best looking in her class. Dawne worked in the trust department at Central Fidelity Bank and Wachovia Bank for 20 plus years where she made many lasting friendships. She kept in touch with many after retirement celebrating birthdays with the 'birthday bunch'. Dawne stayed in the trust field after leaving the bank at other companies. She was also a preschool teacher for years before banking at Fairmount Memorial Baptist Church where she was also involved in the youth group when her children were growing up. She was a little league softball coach throughout the 1980's and she dearly loved softball and coaching and cheering for all the girls she coached. Dawne loved all animals but especially a few treasured ones that she had through the years Mimi, Penny and her most recent baby Molly. Dawne lived for her children and grandchildren. She never missed a dance recital, chorus concert, school award ceremony, soccer game or birthday party, often traveling several hours to be able to attend. Marissa, Noah, Whitney, Austin, Melody, Chance, Jacob and Shepard, her grandchildren, will always remember Nonnie's warm hugs and unconditional love. Her last years were spent at Hanover Healthcare facility where she touched so many lives. Not only the many roommates that she had and their families but also in the staff that took care of her. The staff became like family to her, and she treated them as if they were her own sisters, brothers, daughters and sons. Q, Dee, Sandra, Coxton, Lillian, Kay, Karen, Joyce, Heather, Rhonda, Thomas and Mike just to name a few. Patient, gentle, a great listener and advice giver, a dear friend to many, and a mother not only to her own children but to so many others whose lives that she has touched. We know that she was greeted when she reached Home not only by her parents and her much loved and missed older sister Nan, but also the most wonderful and best friend that she had during her life, Margaret. Having been apart for 17 years, Dawne missed her daily and talked of her so very often, we are comforted to know that they are together once again, and have probably already gone to a few craft shows. Dawne is survived by her daughters, Jill Dunn (Christopher), Kimberly Talley (Barry) and Veronica Bratton (Tim); eight grandchildren; a brother, Gerald Williams (Avie); and a sister, Karen Williams. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 PM, Monday, February 6th, at the church Dawne dearly loved, Gethsemane Church of Christ, 5146 Mechanicsville Turnpike, Mechanicsville, VA 23111. The family will receive friends at the reception following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gethsemane Church of Christ or to the Richmond SPCA.
