Doris Mae Waxmunski O'Connor

Doris Mae Waxmunski O’Connor of Richmond, Va lived 80 colorful years before beginning her new life with the Lord on October 24. Her vivid blue-green eyes, bright smile and her flair for fashion wowed many a person, but her warm heart and fun friendly nature won over everyone she met. Doris will be reunited in heaven with her parents, Henry and Hazel Waxmunski of Eltham, Va. and her brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Patsy Waxmunski, Jr. of Gloucester, Va. whom she loved dearly. She will be greatly missed by her caring husband of 54 years, D. Donald O’Connor of Richmond, Va., her daughter and son-in-law, Kelley and Tom Moore of Clemmons, NC and twin 5-year old granddaughters, Evie and Grace, who will always remember her as their beloved “Mae Mae.”; her nieces and nephews, Lisa and Ricky Carmine of Williamsburg, Va., Jane and Tommy Butler of Richmond, Va., Diane and Mike Stephens of Kernersville, NC and Ronnie and Di Sibley of Williamsburg, Va., along with many other family members and friends, all mourn the loss of Doris’s sweet and sassy spirit. Doris was a spirited cheerleader at New Kent County High school where she graduated from in 1957. She served as May Queen her senior year and was a star basketball player who’s shot from far across the court won a game. She went on to school at Pan American Secretarial School where she was amongst the fastest typists in her class. She worked in the secretarial field until she retired from Thompson Middle School in Richmond in 1995. The football season was one of her favorite times of year. She was a sports fanatic right up until the last weeks of her life. She cheered loudly for the Washington Redskins but never for the Dallas Cowboys. One of her first gifts to her granddaughters was a toy football to toss around. She loved flowers, especially fragrant pink roses and shared her flower arranging talent with the Huguenot Garden Club. She and Donald aptly named their river cottage in Deltaville, Va. the “Rose Cottage.” Doris will always be remembered for her quick wit, her beautiful smile and her love of family. A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 27 at 11:00am at the St. Theresa Catholic Cemetery in West Point, Virginia. A reception will follow.
