Douglas Quentin Leatham

Douglas Quentin Leatham, age 53, passed away on December 7, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with depression and PTSD. Born to John and Sheila Leatham, Doug was known for his adventurous spirit, love of family, and unwavering dedication to those around him. Doug was born in Stamford, Connecticut, and spent his childhood exploring the outdoors, riding dirt bikes, participating in theater, and catching frogs with his friends. His family moved to Chicago, Illinois, where Doug graduated from Lake Forest High School and later attended DePaul University. Doug pursued a career as a computer systems administrator in the mid-1990s before answering a call to serve his country. In November 2003, he joined the United States Army as a non-commissioned officer, where he served with distinction in Iraq, Afghanistan, Korea, and various locations in the United States. During his deployment to Iraq, he met the love of his life, Jessica. They married on March 5, 2009, in Yorktown, Virginia, and reaffirmed their vows on August 9, 2009, in Branson, Missouri. Together, they welcomed two children, Sean in 2010 and Rory in 2012, who were the light of his life. After his honorable discharge from the Army in 2013, Doug worked at Home Depot and later embraced the cherished role of a stay-at-home dad, creating lasting memories of adventures and play with his children. Being a father was one of Doug’s greatest joys, and his love for Sean and Rory was boundless. Doug faced significant challenges throughout his life, including struggles with PTSD, depression, and health complications. Despite these challenges, he found solace in his love for music, movies, and spending time with his children. Doug’s resilience, humor, and devotion to his family will always be remembered. He is deeply missed by his children, Sean and Rory Leatham; his former wife, Jessica Leatham; his siblings, John (Susan) Leatham and Bronwen (Jaime) Dingeman; his aunt and uncle, Betsy and Jim LaFontaine; and his nieces and nephews, Caroline Mason, Kristen, Katy, Drew LaFontaine, Ryan, Rachel (Tanner Duffy), James Leatham, Miles, and Lily Dingeman. He is also survived by many other relatives and dear friends. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, John and Sheila Leatham, and his sister, Lisa Leatham Mason. Doug’s ashes will be scattered with his sister’s in Door County, Wisconsin, a place that held special meaning for him. Doug’s family and friends will forever carry his memory in their hearts, comforted by the hope that he has found peace. A memorial service will be held 3PM, Saturday, December 21, 2024, at Vincent Funeral Home, 417 11th Street, West Point, VA 23181. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to support his children through their mother, Jessica, as they navigate the future without him.
