Edna Mae Brooks

Edna Mae Brooks, 77, resident and native of Charles City County, peacefully gained her wings, Sunday September 8, 2024. Edna was born June 12, 1947 to the late Andrew Lee Coles and Susan Edna Coles. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; three brothers, Fattan Muhammad, Andrew Lee Coles, Jr., and Claude Coles; three sisters, Inez Williams, Hannah Banks, and Parthinia Robinson. Edna was the youngest of her nine siblings. She enjoyed early and late life with four loving children, ten grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren. Edna was a staple in the community. She was a woman of God with unwavering faith. Through all her trials, she never questioned “why me?”. She knew that whatever was happening was for her and not happening to her. She knew God had her through whatever life brought. During her life, Edna worked at Charles City High School and the college of William and Mary, as a custodial worker, where she later retired. She was also involved in the church. She may not have made it to every service, but she steadily believed in the Lord. Whenever we started to worry or stray away from our Faith, she would always say “Give it to God” or “pray and let it go, don’t you worry about that”. Edna Mae will truly be missed, but never forgotten. Edna Mae is lovingly remembered by her husband, Charles “Jack” Brooks; four children, Nathaniel Brooks, Charles Brooks, Candy Brooks, and Lorie Brooks; ten grandchildren, Darrell Williams, Johnathan Williams, Jenell Carter, Chez Green, Dasha Harrold, Kierra Brooks, Datwan Carter, Raven Jones, Jamia Brooks, and Anija Brown; fourteen great grandchildren, Cayden Williams, Serena Williams, Zion Williams, Kernya Driggins, Rah’meia Craig, Jai’Seyon Carter, twins Jah’Lil and Jah’Liyah Green, Aubrey Williams, Avery Williams, Ivari Hampton, Emereigh Hampton, Amier Hampton, and Solai Greene; two siblings, Willie Coles and Caldonia Williams; a sister in law, Felicia Knight (Ted); a brother in law, Willie Vines, Jr., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A funeral service will be held 1PM Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Parrish Hill Baptist Church, 12401 John Tyler Memorial Highway, Charles City, VA 23030. A viewing will be held 2 hours prior to services. Interment to follow in the Parrish Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
