Frances Cook Harper

Jacqueline Cook Harper of West Point, Va, beloved wife of John Paul Harper, died Tuesday, April 5, 2011. Mrs. Harper was born December 16, 1924, in Kingstree, SC to the late Mary Ester McCants Cook and John Earl Cook. She and Mr. Harper, formerly of Andrews, SC were married in 1943. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, four children, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews; daughter Virginia Harper Hester of Statesville, NC and her son, Kevan Hershel Hester, and wife Mira Kim and their sons John James and Ethan Kim of Seoul, S. Korea; son John Edwin Harper and wife, Eleanor O’Connor of West Point and daughters, Casey Leigh and Jacqueline Marie and her husband, Zachary Judkins of Tallahassee, FL; son Paul Montgomery Harper and wife, Elizabeth Bates Holloway of Raleigh, NC and her sons, Earl and Kevin and their families of Richmond, VA; daughter Nora Harper and husband Stephen Christopher Kopacki and children Virginia Jacqueline and Zechariah Alexander of Poquoson, VA. Mrs. Harper is also survived by sisters Virginia Louriene Cook LeMaster of Lawrenceville, GA and Mary Ann Cook Tippins of Myrtle Beach, SC and a brother, Charles Rexford Cook of Cross, SC. She was preceded in death by an older sister, Mary Marilyn Cook Lawrimore Hewitt, and a younger brother, Ronald Erwin Cook. Her sister is survived by a son, Christopher Lee Hewitt, and two grandchildren. Her brother is survived by a son, Mark Frederick Cook and wife, Jennifer. Mrs. Harper was a member of West Point United Methodist Church. A bird enthusiast, Mrs. Harper nurtured many bluebirds and humming birds. She maintained a number of bluebird houses at The West Point Country Club and in her backyard. At various times in her life she enjoyed gardening, writing, painting, antiquing and golfing. A memorial service will be held at 2 P.M. Friday, April 8th at West Point United Methodist Church, 1020 Main Street, West Point, VA. The family will receive friends Thursday, April 7th 6-8 P.M. at The Vincent Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 417 11th street, West Point, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to West Point Volunteer Fire & Rescue Inc., P.O. Box X West Point, VA. 23181.
