Janet Davis Brockwell

Janet Davis Brockwell of Quinton, VA passed away peacefully on October 19, 2024. She was born in Richmond, VA on February 7, 1938 to Ralph Gardner Davis and Annie Garrett Davis. She was preceded in death by both parents, her siblings, Ralph Davis, Jr., Joyce Pritchard, Fred Davis, Ned Davis, Ted Davis, and her son, John Henry Brockwell, Jr. She is survived by her sister, Alice Robinson; son, James Brockwell (Debbie); grandchildren, Joshua Henry Brockwell (Miranda), Estelle Bonevich Brockwell and Eli Ullysses Brockwell; her darling new great-granddaughter, Kolbi Jean Brockwell, and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. Janet was equally devoted to her family, friends, and Church, giving all she had for each. Her work ethic was only outmatched by her love for others. Whether she is called Granny B or Gram Gram, she gave her love to the fullest. However, her best gift was that of a role model for those around her, always giving sound advice and demonstrating how to live life to the fullest. She did not have a cross word to say, always saw the positive and going after that. She could make the worst of times the best of times through her infectious and witty personality. Janet’s decades’ long working career began as the first woman manager at her local Safeway grocery store. In her position she gave many young people their first job and she looked after each as if they were one of her own children. Life long friends were made during this time. This position also provided Janet the flexibility to never miss a practice, game, or any other school event of her children. Janet was an athlete her entire life, driven by a competitive spirit. In her senior year at New Kent High School, she won the Most Athletic award while simultaneously being voted Most Laziest. Few can accomplish such a feat. Later in life she took up tennis but found her passion in golf. She was fortunate to make many friends through golf and be able to play most courses within Virginia through her volunteerism with the Virginia State Golf Association. She found that as a golf course rater, that she would be able to play each course she rated – including the private courses. In 2018 Janet received the “Volunteer Of The Year” award from the VSGL. Janet maintained her active lifestyle up to her last days by volunteering at her church, golfing, yoga, and tending her yard. She could stop to smell the roses but never slowed down. A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM, Saturday October 26, 2024 at Providence United Methodist Church in Quinton, VA. of which she was a lifelong member. The family will receive friends Saturday from, 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM, just prior to services. Graveside service will be immediately followed with fellowship at the Church following. All are welcome to attend.
