Joyce Marie Burrell Turpin

Joyce Marie Burrell Turpin, 80 of Charles City, VA, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 2, 2022. She was born on January 30, 1942, in New Kent, VA to the late Louis Herman Burrell Sr., and Florence Edna Burrell. She is preceded in death by her husband Ernest “Bootsie” Turpin Sr., and siblings Billie Barbour and Herman “Chick” Burrell Jr. Joyce accepted Christ at an early age at New Elam Baptist Church in New Kent, VA. She graduated from G. W. Watkins School in 1960 located in New Kent, VA. After graduation, Joyce married “Bootsie” of Charles City,VA, where they resided after marriage, and from this union they had three children, Ernest Jr. “Cisco”, J. Renee and Monica “Monie”. She often referred to her girls as her two Valentine’s gifts as they were both born on Feb.14th, five years apart. Joyce loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She taught them Bible verses and poetry. She loved attending church and she would quietly recite from memory Bible verses that were being spoken by others during worship. She loved babies and loved spoiling them. She was generous, giving, always thinking about others, and buying things that others liked, particularly children. She loved her family and was very proud and encouraging. She was an expert seamstress and could even make her own pattens for projects. She loved creating and doing arts and crafts. She was a comedian who was very quick witted and creative in her humorous expressions. She was a bargain hunter and drawn to any clearance rack and yard sale. Joyce leaves to cherish her memory one son Ernest “Cisco” Turpin Jr.; two daughters J. Renee Payne, and Monica T. Brown (Arnold); bonus daughter Tawande Barbour; six grandchildren, Dyron Payne (Sheene), Danielle Gibson (Lance), Gabrielle Turpin, Ashli O’tey (Jerron), Shana Brown and Loren Turpin; great grandchildren, Lena, Kayden, Ani, La’el, AvaRae, Jayden and Ashton; bonus grandchildren, Monety Cotman, Jr., D'Andre Barbour and Gynai Jones; siblings, James “Jimmy”, Ret. Master Chief Charles Kenneth (Betty B), her brother and best friend Beverly, and Betty J. Burrell; aunt Fannie Burrell Smith and uncle Blaine Wardell Bowman (Annie); in-laws, L. Reginald “Reggie” Barbour, Sylvia Diane Burrell, C. Rebecca Dixon, Princetta Smith, Ceressa Randolph (Norman) and Nellie Turpin; bonus sisters, Barbara Ann Moss, Linda T. Fultz, Vera C. Burrell, and Ida Mae Burrell. A funeral service will be 11AM Saturday, April 9, 2022, at New Elam Baptist Church, New Kent, VA. A viewing will be held from 6PM-8PM Friday, April 8, 2022, at Vincent Funeral Home, Providence Forge, VA.
