Lorenze Irwin Adkins

Lorenze “Buzz” Irwin Adkins, 83 of Charles City, VA, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, with his family at his side. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 61 years, Linda A. Adkins; and his children, Coy Adkins (Dee), Noel Adkins, and Missy Adkins (Todd). He was a loving grandfather to Jessica (Ross), Jenna (Shawn), John (Abby), Chelsea (Poobie), Hunter, Reign, Rachel, Autumn (Jake), Leann (Justin), Brandon (Rylee), and angel grandson Brantley. He was a devoted great-grandfather to Ella, Brooklyn, Noah, Carter, Mila, Lawson, Lyla, Aubrey, Kohen, Harper, Poketeneh, Jessa Mae, Kennedi, John Paul, Lincon, Sequoyah, Chesney, and baby Drammaco. Buzz was preceded in death by his parents, Howard A. and Lucille D. Adkins, and his siblings, Phyllis A. Stewart, Iris E. Holmes, and H. Milton Adkins. He is survived by two sisters, Jean A. Stewart (Ron) and Janet A. Adkins; three brothers, H. Don Adkins (Jackie), Stephen R. Adkins (Eunice), and Stanley W. Adkins (Loretta). Buzz was born on July 16, 1941, in Charles City County. He attended Samaria Indian School and graduated from Bacone College in Oklahoma in 1961. He was a proud citizen of the Chickahominy Indian Tribe, and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. In 1963, he married his beloved Linda and built a beautiful life alongside her and their children. Buzz worked hard, always providing for his family, until he retired from Weyerhaeuser in 1998. He had a special love of music and found joy playing his guitar with family and friends. Sometimes he would even share his talented voice by singing. Buzz also had a passion for reading, always willing to share a book with a friend and discuss his favorite titles and authors. Out of all of his hobbies, Buzz is definitely known for the time spent in his dump truck. Whether it was helping a friend with a small job, or teaching a grandchild how to operate it, he loved his dump truck. Buzz adored his family and would make a point to tell them that he loved and appreciated them as often as possible. He found joy in watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren play, most notably sitting outside at the picnic table. Buzz always had a joke to share, and his quick wit and playful spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He will also be remembered as a kind and generous person, making sure you have everything you need when you leave his home. He is best known for saying, “If you leave here hungry, it’s your own fault.” To honor Buzz’s final wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral services. We invite you to privately celebrate and remember Buzz’s memory in your own way. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Chickahominy Indian Tribe.
