Marian Barbour Bell

Marian Rosalind Barbour Bell was born on July 8, 1945 in Charles City, VA to the late Harvey and Rebecca Barbour. She is preceded in death by her sisters, Cynthia Jean Meachem, Eureka Francine (“France”) Miles, and Beatrice Geraldine (“Gert”) Jones, and her brother, Horace Barbour. Marian gave her life to Christ at an early age, and was baptized at Parrish Hill Baptist Church where she was an active member until her health began to fail. At Parrish Hill Baptist Church, she was a member of the Willing Workers Club, and attended Sunday School. Marian graduated from Ruthville High School in 1963. She also attended Smith Madden Business School. Marian worked for The State of Virginia’s Department of Juvenile Justice for several years and retired in 2004. Prior to that, she was a substitute teacher in Charles City Public Schools. Marian enjoyed spending time with her family and going to casinos with her husband. She often reminded others how blessed she was to have Rudy as her husband. She also found pleasure in supporting her children – always present at special events, supportive in helping them achieve their goals, and proud of their every accomplishment. She was fun-loving and embraced the role of “sheriff” after her mother’s death. She was a fierce protector of her family and loved ones. Her favorite people to hang out with were her sisters. The local sisters in Charles City were Marian, France and Gert. Where you saw one, you often saw the other. They were fun loving and loved to dance! They were also mischievous in their own fun-loving way. Marian’s smile would light up a room! In retirement, she regularly watched soap operas, crime/detective shows, and game shows. In her latter years, her preferred shows were westerns – which drove her children crazy. Marian is survived by her loving, patient husband, Rudolph (“Rudy”) Bell, Jr., three children, Morlon Bell-Izzard (Jonathan), Marla Bell, and Marcus Bell, Sr. (T’na), five grandchildren Loren Izzard, Mara Izzard, Damon Lassiter, Marcus Bell Jr., and Mylin Bell, sister Lillian Barbour, brother-in-law Warren Bell (JoAnne), sisters-in-law Joyce Bell, Connie Barnes, Charmae Jackson (Melvin) and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. She leaves us with loving memories that will be cherished forever. A funeral service will be held 12 noon, Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Parrish Hill Baptist Church, 12401 John Tyler Memorial Highway, Charles City, VA 23030. A viewing will be held one hour prior to services. Interment to follow in the Union Cemetery, 7710 Courthouse Rd, Providence Forge, VA 23140.
