Mildred Myree Miles Christian

Mildred Myree Miles Christian, 89, lovingly known to many as “Tunnie”, of Charles City County, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 14, 2026. She was the daughter of William Miles, Jr. and Thelma Miles. She was born in Charles City County and was educated in the Charles City County Public School System. She graduated from Ruthville High School in 1954 and subsequently attended Virginia State University. She attended Gilfield Baptist Church and received Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. Her hobbies included assembling jigsaw puzzles, playing a variety of games, fishing, and pressing her luck at the casinos. Tunnie was particularly known for her five-flavor walnut pound cake, a delight that everyone looked forward to. Taking time out for family vacations was a joy to her or she could just be found hanging out at Val’s Hair Connection chatting with the customers. She loved the customers and the customers loved her! She was a natural-born supervisor. She’d watch you sweep the floor and tell you what you missed! She also was quick to tell if we weren’t dressed properly. Going without earrings was a travesty! If she saw us without them, she’d be the first to ask “Where are your earrings?” She worked at the Yorktown Naval Weapons Station and retired in July, 1993 after many years of diligent service. She was joined in Holy Matrimony to Welton Christian, Sr. in June of 1958, a union that brought forth three children, and lasted until his passing in October, 1990. Along with her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Vivian Miles; and three brothers, Larry, Vernon, and William Miles. She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Welton Christian, Jr.; two daughters, Natalie Lynch (Dwight, Sr.) and Valerie McElroy (Craig, Sr.); five grandchildren, Dwight Lynch, Jr. (Tamara), Brandon Lynch (Irene), Welton Christian, III, Breshae McElroy and Craig McElroy, Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Greyson and Ava; one son at heart, Don Burnett (Gloria); and a host of other relatives and friends, among them a devoted nephew, William "Tenny" Miles; and devoted cousin, Rita Crewe (Thomas). A funeral service will be held 1PM Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Gilfield Baptist Church, 6640 Church Ln, Charles City, VA 23030. A viewing will be held from 5PM to 7PM Wednesday, May 20, 2026, also at the church. Interment to follow in the church cemetery.
