Robert Douglas Kardian

Robert (Bob) peacefully passed to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 12, 2018. Bob was born February 6, 1949 in Richmond, VA. He has resided in Providence Forge, VA for the past thirteen years. Bob attended Benedictine High School in Richmond VA and Virginia Military Institute via a basketball scholarship then, later joined the U.S. Army in 1969 stationed in Germany carrying atomic warheads while protecting the German borders. Upon returning home, he began working at VDOT while attending VCU, where he completed a degree in Business Science. Bob continued his career working for VDOT in various positions of Maintenance Operations as Program Manager, Special Studies and Emergency Services. He retired from VDOT after 42 years of service. Bob loved his family and church. He enjoyed reading, watching the latest films, and learning about history, especially his own family genealogy. During retirement Bob served his Church as Historian and Leader of Young At Heart Seniors as well as making sure family, friends and church members received personal inspirational and special occasion cards, and assisting families in need Bob was predeceased by his parents, Frank A. and Lois Lang Kardian, nephews Sean Swecker and baby Allen Needham, survived by his wife Barbara Rea Kardian, son Stuart R. Kardian (Katherine Brandtjen), and daughter Stacey K. Brooks (Allen Brooks). Siblings, Joseph G. Kardian (Carole), Frank A. Kardian (Barbara C), Jean K. Wells (Larry). Loving in-laws Charlotte and Horace Needham, Sondra and Harry Morgan, Sonny and Susan Rea. As well as many wonderful Cousins, Nephews and Nieces. Pall Bearers: Stuart Kardian, Allen Brooks, Sonny Rea, Stephen Rea, Andy Morgan and Eric Swecker Special thanks and blessings to family members, Susan M Rea, RN and Carrie M Cobbs, RN for their loving care and support during Bobs' final days. HOSPICE of VA also supported the family during Bob's last days. Memorial Service will take place Friday, February16, 2018 at 10:00AM at Corinth Baptist Church, 11650 New Kent Hwy, New Kent, VA 23124. Graveside Service will take place Friday, February16, 2018 at 2:30PM at Westhampton Memorial Cemetery, 10000 Patterson Ave. Henrico, VA 23238 In lieu of flowers, friends and family are encouraged to make donations to Corinth Baptist Church Benevolence Fund.
