Rosemary Seidnitzer Slayton

Rosemary Seidnitzer Slayton, 72, wife of Edward (Gunner) Slayton, died May 20, 2019 after a long battle with cancer. Rosemary was born and grew up in Hampton before moving to Lanexa in 1974. She attended St. Rose of Lima School and St. Vincent DePaul in Newport News. She married the love of her life, Lewis Edward Slayton. To this union were born three children, two daughters, Lisa Ann Russell of Broad Brook, Connecticut and Rev. Deborah Garland (Glenn) of Ashland, Virginia and one son, Michael Edward Slayton of Richmond, Virginia. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Kali McMurray of Midlothian, Virginia and Courtney McMurray of Midlothian, Virginia and one great-grandson, Stephen Parson, who she always said was “the joy of her old age.” Rosemary was the 11th of 18 children born to Frank and Delia Seidnitzer of Hampton, Virginia. She is also survived by her brothers, Paul, Frank, John, Joseph, James and Thomas Seidnitzer. Surviving sisters are Janet Scull, Mary Hensley, Angela Slayton and Patricia Shinaberry. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Delia Seidnitzer, sisters Joan Kelling, Theresa Bristow and brothers Charles, Bernard, Vincent and Donald Seidnitzer. Rosemary served on the Board of Women’s Aglow as Secretary/Treasurer. She was a foster parent for several years. She received state certification as a Nursing Assistant and was employed with Sentara of Williamsburg in Home Health Care. Her most recent employment was at Hospice House of Williamsburg as a certified nursing assistant/companion. She loved caring for others and felt that was her calling in life. Rosemary was a Christian and has stepped into eternal glory to be forever with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. 2 Timothy 4:8 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith, there is therefore laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday May 22, 2019 at Vincent Funeral Home, 9923 Pocahontas Trail, Providence Forge, VA 23140. The family will receive friends from 11am- 1pm Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Calvary Pentecostal Tabernacle, 11352 Heflin Lane, Ashland, VA 23005.
