Shivawn Charity Christian

Shivawn LaRae Charity Christian, age 68, of Henrico, VA passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2025. She was preceded in death by her father, Ernest (Cat) Charity, and niece, Rakia Baker. She was born July 23, 1956, in Richmond, Va, but her roots were deep in Charles City County. She attended Charles City County public schools and graduated in 1974. From a young age, she was a part of St John Baptist Church, lending her voice to the very first youth choir. Her pursuit of knowledge led her to Virginia State University, where she earned her degree in Accounting. For 33 years, Shivawn excelled in the Accounting Department at Reynolds Metal Company, later Alcoa, until her well-deserved retirement. Her dedication to St John continued as a valued member of the Finance Committee, where she worked diligently to support the church's financial goals. Shivawn's talents extended beyond numbers. Her culinary skills were renowned, especially for her delectable Italian Cream Cheese Cakes, and seafood quiche. A gifted and creative spirit, she expressed herself through her artistry. She was a talented seamstress, crafting much of her own wardrobe. Her handmade memorial candles and other mementos were cherished by family and friends. Above all, Shivawn's love and devotion to her family, and especially her mother and son, were unwavering. She leaves to cherish her memory, son, Welton “Tripp” Christian III; mother, Jean J. Charity; sisters, Kathy Baker (Wardell) and Vanessa Cotman (Welton); brother, Gary "Nipper" Charity; niece, Katia Johnson (Emanuel); nephews, Steven and Corey Charity; great nieces, Ta'kira, Endya, Kamari Johnson and Kaylen Cotman; devoted friend, Robert Foster; two aunts, Princetta Smith and Bernice Miles. She is also survived by godson, Carroll “Trey” Turner (Paris) and two daughters at heart, Sheree Murray (LaKeisha) and Shaniqua Denson (Jamie); two devoted cousins, Gloria Allen and Verna Turner (Carroll); devoted friends, Francyene Burton, Vernon Brown (Dee) and Sharon Taylor; and a host of other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held 2PM Saturday, March 1, 2025, at St. John Baptist Church, 8131 Roxbury Rd, Charles City, VA 23030. A viewing will begin one hour prior to services.
