Van Alonzo Acree Sr.

A Time to be born- Van Alonzo Acree was born July 11th, 1961 to William H. and Mary Acree. A Time to Live- Van grew up in West Point and graduated from West Point High School in 1981. Van loved sports and was very athletic. He played baseball, basketball, football and ran track. He attended Saint Pauls College for 2 years. Van was baptized at an early age at Bethany Baptist Church. Van later joined Bethel Bibleway that later became Bethel Restoration Center before starting his own church, Victorious Life Christian Center. Van also loved music. He played drums, guitar, and was in a band. He also sang in the Bethel Men’s Choir. A Time to Love- He met and married the love of his life, Rochelle Rhames, his "Doll Baby" on September 13th, 1986. They were blessed to have shared 37 years of marriage and two sons. A Time to Provide-Van loved cars and worked at several dealerships in West Point before working at the Chesapeake Corporation that later became West Rock, where he worked for 39 years. His Achievements- At Bethel Bibleway Van served as Deacons' President, Men's President, and taught Youth Sunday School, he also played the guitar for the adult choir. At Bethel Restoration Center Van was a part of the Ministerial Staff. He and his wife were Presidents of the Rejoice Marriage Ministries. Van also served on the West Point Public School Board. A Time to Die- On Saturday, June 15th, 2024, Bishop Van Alonzo Acree at the age of 61 entered eternal rest and peace at Bon Secours Regional Memorial, in Atlee, Va Van was preceded in death by his father, William H Acree; and sister, Corine V. Acree. He leaves to cherish his memory the love of his life, his "Doll Baby", Rochelle R. Acree; sons, Van Jr. and Nicholas (Allison); his mother, Mary W. Acree; brother, William Acree (Jessie); his sisters, Tamara Acree, Linda Mason (Michael), Teresa Acree; and God brother and sister, Lawrence and Deneen Kelly. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Eden Acree, Vanessa Acree, Ezra Acree and Hosanna Acree; his great aunt Betty Acree; uncles, Lawrence (Carrie) Alfred Acree; aunt, Alease Acree; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and family and friends. Van never met a stranger and was a friend to everybody. He will be missed. A celebration of Van's life will be held 11 a.m., Friday, June 21st at Bethel Restoration Center, 6205 Richmond Road, Williamsburg, Virginia 23188.
