Viola Elnora Wise

Viola E. Wise, 82, of King and Queen, VA, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at the Williamsburg Post Acute Rehabilitation Center. Born to the late Charlie and Ruth Jones, Viola was raised in a loving family and accepted Christ at an early age. She attended her formative learning years in the York County Public School System. Viola was a faithful member of Zion Baptist Church in Williamsburg, VA, where she dedicated her time and service until her health began to decline. Viola was employed with the Williamsburg Pottery Factory, working in the Ceramics Department as a decorator. She made a long career of 30 plus years, and was genuinely missed after her retirement. “Vi”, as she was affectionately called, was known for loving all and passing judgement on no one. She enjoyed cooking, dancing and curling hair. More than anything, she loved her family. She loved spending time with family and friends, shopping, traveling to see plays, and going to eat with her sisters. Vi was the definition of a good wife and mother. She adored her son, Ulysses Jr. “Bookie”, and he could do no wrong in her eyes. Later in life, she became an extraordinary caregiver for her husband, “Boonie.” She always thought of his needs prior to anything she needed to get done. Losing her son “Bookie” was a heavy burden to her soul, but she was able to find some joy and happiness in meeting her grandson, Aven. “Vi” was a complete joy to be around and always had a smile on her face. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her son, Ulysses “Bookie” Wise, Jr.; her parents, Charlie and Ruth Jones; four sisters, Virginia Haltiwanger, Pauline Smith, Catherine Brown, and Marie Taylor, and two brothers, Fred Jones, and Charles Jones. “Vi” is survived by her husband, Ulysses “Boonie” Wise, Sr.; two grandsons, SaQuan and Aven; one sister, Rosie Jamerson; one brother, Horace Jones, Sr.; extended children, Ricky Taliaferro (Alice), and Tara Ra’Oof (Nakim); sisters in law, Pearline Wise and Linda Edwards (Kalie); one brother in law, Cornelious “Pluto” Wise(Vernell); a special friend, Vivian Frazier, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A funeral service will be held 1PM Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at Vincent Funeral Home, 417 11th Street, West Point, VA 23181. A viewing will be 2 hours prior to services.
