James Nathan Robinson

June 30, 1940 - May 9, 2022

James Nathan Robinson was born June 30, 1940 to Julius and Lizzie Robinson in Dragonville, VA, the youngest of nine children. Nathan was baptized and became a member of Union Hope Baptist Church. He was educated in the King & Queen public school system, where he proved he was a whiz at math. As a child, he enjoyed playing checkers and dominos, and in his young adult years he liked racing cars and playing baseball. Nathan was a wonderful cook and especially loved making biscuits, a skill which was taught to him by his mother. Charles remembers that as a child, Nathan would read the Bible to him each night. He enjoyed driving to the store to have conversation with his brother, Joe. On December 27, 1983, Nathan married Carol Custalow who was a dedicated and loving spouse. He was employed at Camco Manufacturing for many years, Holmes Logging as a Trucker, Jig Hogg as A Mechanic, West Point Schools as Custodian and later went to work at the West Point Paper Mill until his retirement. After retiring Nathan worked part time for Virginia Peninsula Public Service Authority until his health failed. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth; three brothers, Rogers, Robert and Sammy; and two sisters, Edmonia and Emma. Nathan is survived by seven devoted children, Nathan Jr. (Rochelle), Edward, William, Jeanette, Hope (Carlton), Katrina (Sean), and Minister Charles Robinson; one brother, Joe; two sisters, Eleanor and Pauline (Reginald); two sisters-in-law, Cheryl (Otis) and Deborah; two brothers-in-law, Wayne and James; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. He also leaves behind a special and devoted nephew, Vester (Sylvester Tuppings), life- long best friend R C Tuppings; an exceptional son-in-law, Carlton Brown. We thank all for the love shown throughout his sickness The family will receive friends 6 to 8 PM, Tuesday, May 17th at Vincent Funeral Home, West Point. A funeral service will be held 11 AM, Wednesday at Union Hope Baptist Church, Center Cross, and burial will follow in the church cemetery.
