Shular Gene Jackson
January 21, 2022
Shular Gene Jackson, Sr., 74, of Charles City, VA, transitioned from this life peacefully, accepting his final heavy equipment operator’s position in Heaven on Friday, January 21st. He was employed by Bruce Howard Contracting where he was a “Master” heavy equipment operator. His previous employers include Parkers, Custom Concrete and Vulcan Materials Company. When Gene was not on a piece of heavy equipment, you could more than likely find him in the back yard cutting down scrap for the scrap yard; working in his garden; remodeling the house, Betty never knew what project he would begin next; hunting in his blind at home; enjoying fishing on the Rappahannock; watching westerns and most of all, pulling off a good joke and telling a good story, which usually was a tall tale. Stillness was an unknown thing to Gene, he was always moving, doing something. Even if he moved at a slower pace than he was accustomed, he was going to be doing something, whether he was walking in the yard and getting up onions and dandelions, spending time with his children and grandchildren or he and Betty taking a Sunday drive. Family time and moments were meaningful to him. Gene was a devoted member of Glendale Community Bible Church where he served in many capacities. He was preceded in death by his parents, William “Bill” Jackson and Elizabeth Jackson; his stepmother, Liz Jackson; his daughter, Melissa; his sister, Nancy Pace; and his son in law, Javier. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 35 years, Betty; children Mitchell, Shular Gene, Jr. (Kathy), Steven, Joseph (Kim), Torland (Billie) and Holly; siblings Billy (Evelyn), Clint (Carol), David (Linda), and Randy (Mary); sisters, Mary and Annette; in-laws, Birdie (Woody), Josephine, Oscar (Cindy), and Sally; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Last, but not least, we must not forget his grand pups, Ellie and Daisy. The family will receive friends 4-6 PM Tuesday January 25th at Vincent Funeral Home, 9923 Pocahontas Trail, Providence Forge, VA, with a celebration of life service starting at 6 pm. The family asks that all attending please wear masks. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to either the Chickahominy Indian Tribe, 8200 Lott Cary Road, Providence Forge, VA 23140 or the National Kidney Foundation, Richmond, VA. The family would like to thank the staff of Davita Dialysis and John Randolph Hospital for their loving and exceptional care that they provided to our loved one during his time of illness.
