David Waltrip

David Allen Waltrip of Toano, born February 21,1933 in Laurel, Maryland, passed away July 15, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Ruth Waltrip; his three brothers, Lloyd, Jr., Ervin, and Kermit; and a sister, Carol Pitts. David is survived by his wife of 53 years, Virginia Dare Waltrip; his three sons, David Allen Waltrip, Jr. of Virginia Beach, John Dudley Waltrip and Jason Clarke Waltrip of Toano; his sister, Glenna Bonneville of Gloucester; sister-in-law, Georgia Staub and her husband, Theo of Switzerland; three nieces, Dorothy Staub of New York, Susan Staub of Switzerland, and Mary Staub of Brooklyn; sister-in-law, Mary Waltrip and many devoted cousins, nieces, nephews and friends, especially Nancy and Chip Wilder, and David Sadler. David served in the National Guard and military police during wartime, spent 40 years working for Virginia Dominion Power and retired only to “work” as a Golf Ranger at Fords Colony Country Club. He was a lovable guy with a passion for golf and had attended two Ryder Cups. David was an elder and deacon at Olive Branch Christian Church, a member and 1994 president of the James City Ruritans. He also served on their board for many years and was Chairman of the Ruritan Golf Tournament for a number of years. He was also a member and past Master of Chickahominy Lodge #286 A.F. & A.M., also having served as the District Deputy Grand Master. The family is deeply grateful and humbled by the care given to David by Dr. Kerbin, Dr. Bedell, the nurses who tended him at Sentara Regional Medical Center, Hospice House of Williamsburg and Peninsula Cancer Institute, especially Sharon Carter. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday July 21, 2011, at Olive Branch Christian Church in Norge, VA with Pastor Richard Cline officiating. Funeral arrangements are being provided by Vincent Funeral Home, Providence Forge, VA.
