Henry Albert McClesley

Mr. Henry Albert “Mickey” McCleskey, was born July 3, 1955 in Dayton, Ohio, to the late Harvey N. and Henrietta Clay McCleskey. On Sunday morning, February 4, 2018, God called Mickey home for eternal rest. He attended Paul Laurence Dunbar High School before transferring to Belmont High School where he graduated in 1973. He played Varsity Basketball at Belmont and received a scholarship to play at Cumberland College. He was an original player for the first Dayton Little League Baseball Team. Mickey was baptized at an early age at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church. He became a member of Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in 2016 in Dayton, Ohio, while caring for his sister Marla. Mickey started his career as a civilian with the Federal Government at Defense Energy Supply Center in Dayton, Ohio. In 1980, he transferred to Bellwood in Richmond, Virginia (currently Defense Supply Center Richmond), where he was employed for many years. He then transferred to the Fleet Industrial Supply Center, Norfolk Naval Base, Norfolk, Virginia and retired after 37 years of Federal Service from Naval Weapon Station, Cheatham Annex, Williamsburg, Virginia. He loved sports and was an avid reader. He loved ‘Old School Music’. He was instrumental in informing what is “The Old School Music Group”, a place where Love is Key, Respect is Given and The Love of Old School Music is a passion. He was known for his outgoing and generous spirit. He embraced each day to the fullest. Mickey loved his family and his family loved him. We will never forget his loving smile, genuine personality and positive attitude. He leaves a void in the lives of many relatives and friends who loved and admired him. Mickey was preceded in death by his sisters, Regina McCleskey-Meyers and Marla McCleskey. He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his loving and devoted wife, Lucy Lewis McCleskey; daughters, Kendra D. McCleskey of Wake Forest, North Carolina and Karla L. McCleskey; grandson, Carter Joseph Hyatt; sister, Kristy Johnson (Reginald) of Dayton, Ohio; brother, Harvey McCleskey, Jr. (Loi) of Gahanna, Ohio; brother-in-law, Thomas L. Keiser, Jr. (Wilma); a loving niece, Andrea McCleskey of Dayton, Ohio; nieces and nephews, Starla (Eric), Joy, Reggie Jr. (Tannis), Alexandria, Caleb, Elijah, Meliah, Amayah, Shandi, Jaylen, Mychael, Reign, Tanner, Thomas II and Daphne; a devoted cousin, Annetta Clay; three step-daughters, Tomarah Lewis, Chanda Levy (Paul) and Calida Ware (Jeffrey); ten step-grandchildren, Amani, Quentari, Aneisa, Ajané, Kawan, Mahri, Amhara, Igzabier, Jeffrey II and Jade; one step great-granddaughter, Nova; devoted friends, Mrs. Margaret Spearman, Rev. Morris and Lynda Gant, Ken and Cat Varner, Joseph Kemp II, Frank Davis, Curtis Atkins and Darryl Braxton. A funeral service will be held 12 Noon Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 418 Halifax St, Petersburg, VA 23803, with a visitation one hour prior to the service at 11AM.
