Susan Marie Woodley

Softly, God whispered for Susan to come home on January 20, 2024, at Memorial Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loved ones and she went to live with The Lord. Susan Marie Woodley was born on May 25, 1937, to the late Benjamin and Carrie Brown in Charles City, VA. Susan confessed Christ at an early age and became a faithful member of the Elam Baptist Church and was a working Christian that served on several auxiliaries: the Willing Workers Ministry, the Hospitality committee and the Ushers Ministry and served as president for many years and was currently an active Usher until her health declined. Susan was proceeded in death by her husband; Lawrence Woodley Sr., sons; Ronnie Woodley, Lawrence Woodley Jr., daughter; Vanessa Otey, Grandson; Larry Wallace, brothers; Charles Brown, Joe Brown, Aubrey Brown and Lawrence Brown Jr. Susan’s love for her church family and for everyone she met was whole-heartedly felt and shown with a hug and kiss which would be followed by “I love you”. She received her education from Ruthville Public School and went on to be employed by M & B Hat Factory where She retired after 22 years of service to focus on spending more time with her beloved family. Susan married the love of her life; Lawrence “LJ” Woodley on November 3, 1956; this union of 60 years produced eight children. “Luce” as she was affectionately known was kind, caring and nurturing. She genuinely loved people and people loved her. She was always buzzing around the county visiting and bringing food, to those that she would say “just needed a little company”, but we knew she just really wanted to run her mouth (lol). Her home was a safe haven for anyone that would visit. She loved to cook! She was known for her biscuits, salt herrings and fried potatoes. She loved feeding her family and anyone who came by; playing spades, working her puzzles and spending time with her peers of the Young at Heart Senior Club, where she was crowned their Queen for 2019. Her family gave her great joy and she loved them unconditionally. She would always say; “Don’t tell me bye, say see you later”. Susan was a Virtuous Woman, who loved God. The Matriarch of the Woodley family is gone, but her spirit will forever live on in everyone she touched. She would always say that She was going to fill Elam with Woodley’s. And on this day, her vision has been fulfilled. Susan leaves to cherish her sweet and loving memories: four sons; Lorenzo Woodley, Larry Woodley(Carrie), Everett Woodley Sr.(Elsie), Kenneth Woodley(Michelle), one daughter; Deloris Williams, one daughter in law; Mary Woodley, brothers in law; Robert Woodley(Diane), Allen Woodley(Jackie), four sisters in law; Caldonia Brown, Barbara Brown, Barbara Woodley, Annis Woodley, Grace Woodley; twenty-five grandchildren: Arleen Mosley(Damion), Lamont Haynesworth, Myeasha Pope-Everson, Karisha Burnett, Antonio Burnett, Lawrence Miles, Loyce Miles, Monica Davis, Dorsha Wallace, Larrette Wallace, Markus Woodley, Tiffany Woodley, Kenneth Otey, Je’Quan Carroll, Christie Woodley, Alphonso Woodley, Latoya Woodley, Donika Woodley, Everett Woodley Jr., Adrienne Tabb, Kenneth Spivey, Kenneth Crawley, Latay Spivey, Kenneth Woodley, and Phillip Woodley; fifty-six great-grandchildren; thirteen great-great grandchildren, beloved friends; Anne Bowman, Denise Burrell, Annis Woodley, Demetrius Bradsby, Rev Dr. Horace Parham, Annie Shackleford; devoted cousin; Clara Harris and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A funeral service will be held 2PM Sunday, January 28, 2024, at Elam Baptist Church 13060 The Glebe Ln, Charles City, VA 23030. Viewing will be one hour prior to services.
